Hidden Technology and the Art of Camouflage

Providing Exceptional, Yet Discrete, Home Entertainment

Technology has created a lifestyle that promotes exceptional home entertainment and a more comfortable way of living. Brilliant, vibrant images can be found on large, innovative screens that bring movies, documentaries, and sporting events to life on every TV.

Whole-home audio systems deliver high-fidelity music to every room and outdoor space, creating a stunning soundscape. The perfect lighting aligns for every occasion with the touch of a button, ranging from golden amber to indigo blue.

It's a remarkable world, and one that continues to bring innovative technologies almost daily.

The challenge? Before we know it, our clients’ homes, while highly entertaining, have lost some of their aesthetic appeal. The technology that offers an exceptional lifestyle also takes up space, affecting the exquisite design of their homes.

As a designer, what is the answer? Hidden technology

The Display

In some homes, bigger is better when it comes to today’s TV screens. OLED TVs reach almost 100 inches, creating an immersive cinematic experience while delivering infinite contrast and vibrant hues. QLED displays range from about 45 to 98 inches and create the ideal entertainment in rooms with ambient light.

But who wants these mega-displays marring a living room or den in the middle of the day? It’s been the topic of many heated debates.

Today, you can hide any size display when not in use via motorized lifts that lower it from its hiding place in the ceiling or raise it from custom cabinetry. Flip-around mounts enable a swift transition from artwork to screen.

And all it takes is the press of a button.

The Sound

Today’s homeowners possess the ability to enjoy high-fidelity music in every room of their home. All they need to do is press an icon on a touchscreen to direct music to one or every room.

In the past, this level of audio would come from tower loudspeakers. And while this solution can be beautiful to behold, they can also distract from, rather than harmonize with, their surroundings. Now, the latest architectural speakers bring this immersive audio experience to every room and outdoor area.

Indoors, you’ll find them in walls and ceilings, blending in with their surroundings or looking like small aperture downlights. The wiring is tucked into walls, or, in renovation projects, wireless options perform their mastery. Outdoors, satellite speakers resemble landscape lights, blending seamlessly into their surroundings beneath trees and shrubs, as well as along pathways. The result is stunning audio from unseen sources.

Camouflage

Camouflage refers to the ability to conceal or disguise an object, even when it is visible. In today’s technologically focused landscape, it’s used to hide technology in plain sight. An example of this is the Séura Mirror TV. Custom-designed, they can look like a beautiful mirror one minute and a brilliant TV the next.

As technology continues to evolve, so do the possibilities. At Argenta, we’re excited to be part of this transformation, working with designers to provide their clients with unparalleled experiences while preserving the perfectly sculpted home aesthetics.
