What is a “Smart Home”? Is it the same as an Automated Home?

We live in a world of smart devices. Smartphones, smart watches, and now our homes are becoming smart. But what exactly is a smart home? Is a smart home an automated home? What is an automated home?

A smart home is a home that has lighting, electronics, heating, and other devices that can be controlled remotely by a smartphone or computer. Having a smart home can add peace of mind and a lot of convenience.

If you’re pulling out of your driveway and can’t remember if you’ve locked the front door, do you pull back into your driveway, get out of the car, walk back to your house, and check? Or do you stop, pull out your phone, and open an app to check?

If you leave the office on a hot day and want to check the temperature of your house, do you have to wait till you get home? Or do you open an app on your phone and get your air conditioner running so you come home to a cool house?

Having a smart home is great. But don’t stop there. Smart homes are just the beginning of a much more amazing home experience.

Automated homes are a step above smart homes. Where smart homes rely on external control through an app or website, automated homes rely on previously programmed settings and respond to cues from you and how you live your life. This programming responds to changes in the environment or manual control systems that allow you to have complete control of your home.

Starting the Day

Before you even wake up, your automated home can be working for you. Do you like waking up to music, or having your lights slowly brighten and turn on throughout your home? Wake up scenes are a great way to start your day in your automated home.

One of the hardest parts about getting up in the morning is the initial shock of turning on the lights in your room. With wake up scenes you can have your lights ramp up to full brightness. Figure out how you’d like your lights to factor into your morning routine and program them to come on when you want.

Coming Home

At the end of the day, we all want to come home and relax. Are there certain things you like doing as soon as you get home? Maybe you like to watch the news or sports when you get home. Maybe you want to have a certain temperature in your home when you sit down on the couch. All these things and more are possible when you automate your home. We can automate your TV to turn on to your favorite news, sports, or other program when you enter the code to unlock your front door. Automating your home is all about bringing comfort and convenience to you.

When you’re at home and it gets dark outside, we can program your shades to close at dark. We do this based on our knowledge of the location of the sun. Since the amount of daylight we have changes throughout the year, the exact time they close each day will be different.

The more events you can program off of in your home (doors opening, motion sensors, etc.) and the more equipment you have that can talk with each will allow a wide range of potential events for your home. Using AI can also help establish patterns and  can suggest possible automated events that we can provide you with. We can help you install equipment and gear that will help find and establish your living patterns.

How you live in your home determines the type of automation we can bring to you. If you want to add convenience and comfort into your life, call Argenta. To make your home truly yours, you’ve got to live in it and partner with a company that understands how to help you get the most out of your home.
